So I sat the AWS DevOps Professional Exam this afternoon. It was a pretty sticky exam and the questions were quite tricky with plenty of ‘blog-post’ length questions followed by four plausible answers. The whole exam lasted 3 hours 10 minutes and I used every minute of the allotted time.
I did the exam online using Pearson Vue. Now normally, there’s a struggle to log in to the test and get the exam under way and this time was no exception because I was trying to switch everything off to get more bandwidth. You need a trifling 6MB bandwidth available and time and time again the report kept saying there was only 5.5MB available. Luckily, after many retries, I got in and the exam started. The proctor was nice and the Pearson Vue software is a bit more stable than I last remember it. That said, I keep one machine running Windows 10 just for exams and nothing else.
The first ten questions I basically scan, flag-for-review and skip because they’re usually brutal and only start answering them when they get to the level of..
“Which AWS service provides basic storage capabilities for your data?”
A) Amazon S3
B) Microsoft Word
C) amazon.com
D) Facebook
Now I’ve got one answer right for sure, I’m going to answer the next with the same conviction. This approach, I find, really helps build confidence and keeps you framed in the mindset that every single answer counts.
Anyway, new year, new badge. Happy days!
I’m going to do a Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) Exam next, I think. I’ve been doing a lot of Kubernetes work recently and I think it’s time to get the badge to go with it.
ttfn!
